Top 5 Things Celebrate With Kids This Week of April 7-13

By Macaroni KID Story-Boone-Ames April 8, 2024

Every Monday, Macaroni KID Local Edition shares our picks for five things to do with your kids in Story-Boone-Ames over the week. This week, the publisher decided to put a different spin on -things. Feeling festive or not, we highlighted five things you can celebrate this week of April 7-13, 2024!

1. National Library Week - April 7-13

How do you library? We have our libraries for which to be thankful. In the country where I grew up, there was a library in a school, but there was no library in almost every town. In Story-Boone-Ames, we have been blessed with libraries and librarians to enrich our lives. Perhaps you can plan a visit to your local library this week, and don't forget to thank your librarians! Here are some suggestions from the American Library Association that you can do to participate:

2. April is the Month of the Military Child

We are thankful for the militaries who served and are serving our nations. Throughout this month, we want to recognize military children for their courage and sacrifice positively. Reach out with acts of kindness, hospitality, and words of affirmation. Freedom is not free, and we are grateful for those who lay their lives down for our freedom. April 1-30

3. April is the National Poetry Month

Who doesn't love a good poem? Sensible arrangement of words to express love, despair, hope, discouragement, joy, pain, etc. From Gilgamesh to Robert Frost to Li Bai, major Eastern and Western civilizations have embraced poetry as an amazing literary device. Visit your local library and talk to your local librarian for recommendations.

4. National Pet Day on April 11

Celebrate the companionship of our beloved pet(s) on this day. Take some time to spoil them and give them the attention they deserve. Maybe go on an extra walk, a special treat, clean the fish tank,... etc.

5. National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 11

This can be a quick fix for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Coupled with a hot bowl of chili or soup. We have a recipe article for all three. Click here to find out.
